Cake Mania: Lights, Camera, Action! Game Review

Cake Mania is back again with its latest sequel – Cake Mania: Lights, Camera, Action! For those who have enjoyed Cake Mania’s previous game Cake Mania: Main Street with the additional shops, you will be glad to know that there will be additional shops added in the gameplay as well! Yep, it’s not just Jill’s bakery you will be handling but as well as 2 other shops.

The story starts with Jack and Jill preparing for the arrival of their baby. And when Bakersfield has caught the eye of Hollywood producers to film their next big action blockbuster, Jill and her friends find themselves busier than ever catering to a new batch of customers. This is where you will help Jack and Jill mind their bakery business of 60 levels, Risha’s Fashion Boutique with 25 levels and Gordo’s pizza of 25 levels. This makes a nice total of 110 levels with 3 different businesses that you get to play in Cake Mania: Lights, Camera, Action! There are also 2 modes of gamplay you can choose to play from – timed mode or relaxed mode. You can switch the mode easily at any level you want but only timed mode has expert ratings so if you are going for the gold, you have to stay in the timed mode.

The main gameplay is still on Jack and Jill’s Bakery, there you will start to bake the cakes, apply different colored icings and toppers and then serving up to the customers. Each fulfilled customer earns you money which you can use to buy better equipment, upgrades or special items to help you in running the bakery. The gameplay is almost the same as the previous Cake Mania games except that instead of Jill running the bakery all the time, you will have Jack helping out while Jill sits behind the counter decorating cakes. Well… as Jack isn’t really that pro in the job, he has a tendency to break the equipment instead. You can still bake cakes using the broken equipment except that it will only run on half the efficiency until you get it repaired.

Got a little tired of baking cakes and thinking of having a little fashion fun? Hop over to Risha’s Fashion Boutique then! Here you get to fulfill customers’ orders by helping them find the items that they requested for. It’s a time management game with a dash of seek-and-find gameplay. You can buy new fashion designs and upgrades at the start of every level.  In fact, I rather enjoyed Risha’s Fashion Boutique as compared to the bakery so I thought that 25 levels are seriously not enough.

As for Gordo’s Pizza, you have to whip up pizzas, pastas or grilled dishes as requested by the customers by putting a number of ingredients together. Not to worry, you don’t have to memorize the recipe as the combination will be shown in the speech bubble. You can also do bonus chains by doing the same thing 4 times like… collecting all the coins on the table or using the same ingredients 4 times. You can also use the money to buy upgrades or new ingredients for your shop.

I find the customers pretty amusing to watch and of course some are pretty annoying. It’s not the patience level but more of the side effects that they will cause. For example, the Yeti freezing the customer next to him; it’s helpful if you haven’t prepared the order yet but if you have just finished the order intended for that frozen customer, you will find that he/she is not accessible at the moment and you have to put the order down and do another order instead. Another example is the psychic; I wouldn’t find her helpful actually. Although she doesn’t need a menu to tell you what she wants but by telling me what the rest wants, robs me of the chance to give them a menu to earn more patience hearts.

Overall, I really enjoyed playing the game very much. I love the graphics, the extra upgrades or stuff you can buy and the amusing customers that brings a smile or frown while playing the game. As a time management game fan, Cake Mania: Lights, Camera, Action was definitely one of the best I have ever played and of course the fact that you get to play 3 different shops in a game was simply a great package deal! Cake Mania: Lights, Camera, Action! Is highly recommended for all time management game fans!
