Potion Bar Game Review
Potion Bar is the latest time management game by Playrix Entertainment. Not sure how many of you are familiar with the game company but frankly speaking my decision to play this game was also partly based on the fact that this game was developed by them. As I have played a few games by them like Gardenscapes and the Fishdom series, I do like the kind of graphics they have for the games so I’m quite sure that Potion Bar will work out as well.
Potion Bar, like what the title tells you, is a time management game in fantasy world theme of witches, nymphs and even cupids which requires you to make potions based on the customer’s requests. There are a total of 5 different locations, 7 days for each level with a hidden object game that unlocks a new potion after completing Wednesday. At the end of the week before you move on to the next location, you have to complete a very simple puzzle that requires you to “fix” the door to the next location.
The game starts off with the main character going to a bar for her last scheduled interview of the day but only to find a note left by the previous bartender Jack. After following the instructions on the cat statue, the cat will give you a tutorial on how to make the potions. After the day has ended, you realized that you can’t leave the bar until Jack comes back. The game does not have a long winded storyline but some short interesting conversations before the day starts or after the day ends.
The gameplay for Potion Bar is rather straight forward and easy to understand as you only need to concoct the potions based on the customer’s speech bubble without memorizing any concoctions. To complete each day, all you have to do is to earn the minimum required amount and you will be able to go to the next day. There is no expert ranking for each day so you will get a gold star after you complete each day, but of course earning more helps you to purchase a new item for the bar when the magic junkman comes. Since you can only afford one new item at a time, I will suggest that you should put getting the glasses as the first priority followed by either the decorations or extra artifacts for sale. Getting new ingredients for the potions is rather interesting to watch when your customer finishes the drinks but having too many different ingredients might be rather troublesome as you proceed through the game.
The customers are rather patient I would say as I haven’t lost a single customer throughout the whole game. They don’t really bother you all the time other than upon their arrival or when they start getting impatient and you find out that most of them like to talk to your cat when they start getting a little impatient. As for their orders, one nice thing about this game is the colors of the potions will always be different so you don’t have to worry about getting mix up over two customers with the same color of potion but with different ingredients. Another nice point of this game is that you can always put the decorations back if you have chosen the wrong one which is rather reliving as you don’t have to dump the potion if you get it wrong at the decoration part. That’s the only reversible part of the potion, so try not to make a mistake at the potion color or the ingredients.
Overall, I find this game rather easy to complete and it is possible to complete the whole game within 4 hours or less. But if you are curious about the effects of what other ingredients might do, you have to start the game all over with a different profile which I did end up creating 3 profiles for the game. I’m not sure with the lack of having an expert ranking is a good thing or a bad thing as I was glad that I didn’t have to replay each day just to get one but having an expert ranking also helps in prolonging the gameplay. Oh well… that’s what happens again when you can’t get enough of the game and this is the second time I said it within this week. Anyway, I think Playrix Entertainment has done a really good job for a time management game and I hope to see more good games coming out from them.
